Good control of external borders is of great importance here, the State Secretary says. “We are working hard on this, for example with extra deployment of ships and more staff. In addition, humane reception with good immigration and asylum procedures in Curaçao is a continuous topic of conversation with all the challenges that exist.”

As an autonomous country, Curaçao itself is responsible for this. From the Netherlands, the government will provide support, also financially, and cooperation. The Netherlands contributes, among other things, to border control at sea, training for personnel in the immigration process and preventive measures against human trafficking.
