WASHINGTON –
The United States has seized another aircraft belonging to Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, marking the second such confiscation in just six months. The move was carried out during U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s visit to the Dominican Republic.
According to the U.S. State Department, the Venezuelan government used the aircraft for travel to Greece, Turkey, Russia, Nicaragua, and Cuba. The plane was stationed in Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic, for maintenance when it was seized.

This is not the first time the U.S. has taken action against Maduro’s assets. A similar aircraft was confiscated in September, when Joe Biden was still president, under similar circumstances.

The Venezuelan government has strongly condemned the seizure, calling it an act of “flagrant theft” and “illegal” under international law. Maduro’s administration has also announced plans to take “necessary measures” in an effort to recover the aircraft.
