– Minister of Finance Javier Silvania has announced that a tougher stance will be taken against entrepreneurs who do not remit their turnover and payroll taxes. According to the minister, the number of employers remitting the required payroll taxes monthly has significantly increased since 2021. However, for those who continue to refuse to do so, a firm approach has been developed. Silvania stated that in the case of notorious defaulters, bank accounts and business inventories will be seized.
Minister Silvania argues that it is indefensible for some entrepreneurs to evade paying taxes and get away with it consistently. This leads to unfair competition and could ultimately result in a legitimate business having to close its doors. The minister stated that this approach will be applied across all sectors. However, it will only be implemented in cases of prolonged non-compliance and high tax debts, where despite various warnings, such as from bailiffs, the businesses are not willing to remit the withheld taxes.
