WILLEMSTAD
– Curaçao is getting warmer. This is according to Timo Kelder of the Dutch Climate Adaptation Services (CAS) foundation. He conducted research into this on behalf of port manager Curaçao Ports Authority (CPA). According to Kelder, warming is a result of climate change.
Kelders’ research was carried out together with Felix van Veldhoven and concerns an exploratory study into climate threats and risks for ports. At the moment, the annual maximum is around 33 degrees Celsius, with a record 38.3 degrees. In 2050, that will probably be 36 degrees Celsius annually, with peaks of 42 degrees.

According to the researchers, the sea level around the ABC islands will rise faster in the coming decades than in previous ones. In 2050 he foresees an increase of 28 centimeters. After 2050, this will be even faster and can then be more than 85 centimeters higher than it is now.
