King addresses Caribbean part of Kingdom in annual speech

THE HAGUE – King Willem-Alexander today addressed the Netherlands and the Caribbean Kingdom in the annual opening of Parliament speech. During the speech, the king emphasized that the next generations, just like the Netherlands, should be able to live in a clean and safe country with opportunities for everyone.

In the speech the King makes it clear that the perspective of safe opportunities applies to everyone. “The perspective must be for people of every belief, orientation, age, origin, education, or profession. For residents of the city and countryside. Here and in the Caribbean Netherlands, in collaboration with Aruba, Curaçao and Sint Maarten.”

In addition, the King says to support residents of the Caribbean Netherlands on Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba, with the rising prices. The king closes the speech by considering the abolition of slavery. “On the way to the commemoration of 150 years of the abolition of slavery in 2023, there is again reason to make ourselves accountable for this part of our history,” said the King.
