The increase in sales tax collection is an indication that Curaçao’s economy is growing and that compliance measures are bearing fruit, the ministry believes. Naturally, the increase in the prices of local products because of inflation also plays a role.

The collected sales tax of 53 million guilders is indicative of the amount of trade that was made in December that took place in Curaçao. If this amount does not include deferred tax payments, the correct amount of collective sales would be around 900 million guilders.

To arrive at the correct amount, the amount of deferred tax payments would have to be deducted from the 53 million guilders.

The collection of payroll taxes also stabilized after a significant decrease in 2020 due to COVID-19 measures. Since 2021, receipts have remained stable.
