– The investigation into the illegal rental of holiday homes on Curaçao will be completed by December 15 at the latest by the government accountants bureau SBAB. The investigation was launched by Finance Minister Javier Silvania after interest groups Curacao Hospitality and Tourism Association (CHATA) and Curaçao Apartment Small Hotel Association (CASHA) raised the alarm about the situation.

Silvania has received a list of suspected illegal landlords from CHATA and CASHA. In addition, an investigation will be conducted into the various tourist accommodations, such as rental homes, hotels, catering establishments, car companies and diving schools. By doing the investigation, the representatives will get a clearer picture of the current rental market.

“This rental takes place without payment of turnover tax with all the associated consequences. This also leads to unfair competition against landlords who do meet their tax obligations,” said the minister in a letter to SBAB Director Sherwin Casper.
