WILLEMSTAD
– The Ministry of Health, Environment, and Nature (GMN) recently approached the international company Royal Haskoning about finalizing the Environmental Framework Act. They should also provide support for the new air quality standards.
This is apparent from the travel report of Minister Dorothy Pietersz-Janga. The support is needed because of the restart of the oil refinery. Curaçao must adhere to World Health Organization (WHO) standards regarding emissions from the refinery. The judge recently ruled in favor of several environmental organizations that were demanding the government to adhere to the WHO standards. The current regulations do not protect citizens against toxic waste from the refinery.
