Dutch liquidity support to Curaçao and Aruba ended

THE HAGUE – Curaçao and Aruba will no longer receive liquidity support this year. Both countries will also no longer be allowed to deviate from the budgetary norms next year. The State Secretary for Kingdom Relations writes this to the Dutch House of Representatives.

According to the College of Financial Supervision (CFT), both countries no longer need, nor have they asked for, liquidity support. According to the Board, at the end of the year, there will be a positive liquidity balance of 216 million guilders in Curaçao and 19 million florins in Aruba. The estimate for Aruba may still change based on additional information from the Wever-Croes government.

Based on the CFT‘s advice, it has been decided that Curaçao may have a maximum budget deficit on the ordinary service of 4 million guilders and 40 million on the capital service for the entire year 2022.

With regard to Aruba’s maximum financing deficit, it has been agreed that the Council of Aruba Financial Supervision will advise the Council of Ministers of the Kingdom further on this on the basis of additional information from Aruba.

The exceptional situation of not having to meet the legal standards because of the corona pandemic is now over. As of next year, Curaçao and Aruba must again implement a budget that complies with all budget standards that are included for Curaçao in the Financial Supervision Act and for Aruba in the National Ordinance Financial Supervision and the Protocol.
