WILLEMSTAD – The Minister of Economic Development Ruisandro Cijntje recently signed on behalf of the Curaçao government a General Framework Agreement to commence negotiations of a Partial Scope Trade Agreement with the autonomous country within the Netherlands. This agreement was signed with the Minister of Trade and Industry of Trinidad & Tobago Paula Gopee-Scoon. The signing took place at the Prime Minister’s Office in Fort Amsterdam.

According to the Ministry of Economic Development, the signing of the General Framework Agreement signals the commitment to deepen integration between the two countries.

It said the negotiations are expected to be completed within a three-year period and cover a range of subjects including market access for goods, services, investments, non-tariff measures such as sanitary and phytosanitary measures, and technical barriers to trade.

After the signing of the agreement, Minister Gopee- Scoon presented a token to Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas and exchanged gifts with the Minister of Economic Development.

Eleven companies are also currently engaged in business meetings designed to build alliances and expand Trinidad and Tobago’s entry into non-traditional markets and grow exports.
