WILLEMSTAD – The reopening of the Isla refinery is above politics and all the fuss that is not about what is happening now around Caribbean Petroleum Refinery (CPR) is irrelevant. – The reopening of the Isla refinery is above politics and all the fuss that is not about what is happening now around Caribbean Petroleum Refinery (CPR) is irrelevant. That is the opinion of Member of Parliament for the PNP party Sheldry Osepa about the whole discussion that he, together with fellow party member Gwendell Mercelina, voted in favor of a motion submitted by the opposition.
“I am not changing my opinion on CPR. Not because a motion comes from the opposition, PNP cannot agree with it. MFK party leader Amerigo Thodé has been informed in advance about the motion and our position in it. I don’t understand the discontent within the coalition. After all, it’s not about me, but about those 3,000 applicants where false expectations were created, the takeover process that has now gone wrong and the economic development that lingers. It’s about forged documents worth millions of guilders,” said Osepa. “That’s what it’s about!”

“And now Sheldry is suddenly the problem? Sheldry is not the problem”, said the coalition MP. He indicates that he stands for transparency and clarity. So if a motion is about this, it should come as no surprise to anyone that he agrees.

“Who could ever be against this? When I see the motion, it is about supporting the process to find a new operator. Furthermore, among other things, the government must investigate the exclusivity of CPR. And that the contracts of Refineria di Kòrsou (RdK) and CRU must be extended.”

Member of Parliament of the same party Gwendell Mercelina adds that the motion was ultimately not adopted, so why so much discussion? And if two of the thirteen coalition partners vote with the opposition, why should nine members (of the MFK) become unsure about the future of the coalition?”

When explaining the vote in Parliament, Osepa states that it is still difficult to find himself standing alone, but that he cannot close his eyes to reality. “We must stand for what is right. Curaçao can close its eyes, but the whole world is watching us. Because a bunch of ‘crooks’ have come up with false documents.”

Meanwhile, the political parties have mutually agreed on a media silence.
